We hope you are soaking up your last summer before your student becomes an Emory Eagle. While you are enjoying summer, the faculty and staff at Oxford are busy preparing the campus just for your student.
Remember to pay special attention to any bolded deadlines and checklist items.
Here are the most important checklist to-do items for the next two weeks. For more information on these items, make sure you read this newsletter in its entirety and review the Welcome Website.
What Else You Need To Know |
- Parent Portal: Parents are invited to join our Parent Portal, a hub to access important campus news and deadlines as well as personalized newsletters. Click here to register for access to the portal, and check our Parents and Supporters page of the Welcome Website regularly to view our Campus Life Onboarding Webinars.
- Discovery Seminars: We hope your student has already visited the Discovery Seminar page of the Welcome Website to learn about the Discovery Seminar (DS) every first-year student will take in their first semester, and that they are getting excited about their options. There are 29 excellent courses on a wide range of topics for the fall!
Remember that your student needs to submit their preference form to rank their top choices of DS courses by July 15. If they do not submit their preferences by the July 15 deadline, they will be randomly assigned to a course with open seats.
- Housing Assignments: We expect to release housing assignments by 12:00 pm ET July 15. Students will be able to see their Fall 2024 housing assignments by logging in to their MyHousing account. Have questions about housing? Please contact Residential Education & Services at RES@emory.edu.
- Emory Welcome App for Oxford’s Orientation: Mark your calendars for the launch of the Emory Welcome App on July 1! In addition to the Eagle Update newsletters, the Emory Essentials Canvas course, and our Welcome Website, the Emory Welcome App will serve as an additional guide for onboarding and New Student Orientation.
From Orientation Week to Weeks of Welcome, your student will have all of the information they need to navigate Oxford at their fingertips. To access, download the app "Emory Welcome" from your app store. Open the app and search "Oxford Orientation" and download the Oxford specific guide.
For additional questions about New Student Orientation in the meantime, contact oxfordorientation@emory.edu.
- Canvas: By now, all incoming students should have received an invitation to join the Emory Essentials Oxford Edition Canvas course. They also should have received a welcome email from your assigned Advising Support Center contact.
Once your student accepts the invitation (sent to their Emory email address), they can log in with their NetID and Password. If they have not logged in to Canvas, be sure that they check their Emory email for the course invitation.
Content in these modules provide a detailed overview of Oxford College's General Education Program, academic resources and policies, and information to help students prepare for class registration. Additional content has also been provided for specific placement exams (First-Year Writing, Mathematics, and Arabic), pre-professional academic advising materials, and other helpful campus resources.
Be sure to follow the What's Next Checklist on the Welcome Website for updates and important deadlines. The priority deadline for all placement exams is August 1. All students must complete these modules to be deemed eligible to attend a large group course planning session hosted by the Advising Support Center. Large group course planning sessions will review important parts of the registration process. The schedule for these will be posted in the Canvas course!
The first round of these large group sessions will begin the week of July 9th. As an added incentive, students who complete reviewing content in the Emory Essentials Oxford Edition Canvas course are eligible to sign up for optional individual advising meetings hosted by the Advising Support Center. Individual meetings are first come, first served. Sign up here.
If you have any questions about the Emory Essentials Oxford Edition Canvas course, you can email oxadvising@emory.edu.

- Academic Advising Platform - Emory Navigate: Emory is rolling out a new student platform called ‘Emory Navigate’ which incoming first-year students will use to schedule their first advising appointment. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate this new advising platform together.
-
Access Emory Navigate via the desktop website or download the app
-
Click “Schedule an Appointment Today!” near the top right
-
Select “Academic Advising>Oxford College First Year Advising Appointment”
-
Select your date/time with your assigned advisor
Please note, before your student schedules an appointment make sure they:
-
Have thoroughly reviewed the material in the Academics Module
-
Have one or two possible fall schedules ready for review
-
Know what is required of their major if they have one
-
Write down any questions they have so they don't forget
Students are allowed to schedule ONE advising appointment for the summer, so be prepared!
- Ignite Oxford Pre-Orientation: Ignite Oxford Pre-Orientation is officially full, but your student can join the waitlist! Click here to add your student to the waitlist.
Please note that completing this form doesn't guarantee your student a spot in Ignite Oxford. Waitlist students will be contacted on a first-come, first-served basis, should an opening arise. In this case, your student would receive an email notification that a spot has opened and will then have one week to confirm their registration.
After July 15, Ignite Oxford Pre-Orientation will stop pulling students from the waitlist and all remaining students will be notified.
Contact oxfordorientation@emory.edu with any questions. Thank you to everyone who has registered for Ignite Oxford. We can’t wait to meet you this August!
