| The previous version of this Eagle Update listed dates incorrectly on the What's Next Checklist section. We apologize for that error and any confusion it may have caused. The dates have been corrected below in red.
Your student's start at Oxford will be here before you know it, so it is time to make sure all of your boxes are checked and your to-dos are completed!
So without further ado, here is another Eagle Update to help you prepare for 's arrival in January.

What Else You Need To Know |
|
|
- Student Health: The Student Health requirement deadline was October 1 for our spring cohort. Please check your OPUS To-Do list, and if you still see Student Health listed, you have outstanding requirements. If you have not been cleared yet, check your Emory Student Health Portal and your emory.edu email for any messages from Student Health regarding your outstanding requirements. Information regarding clearance requirements is available on the Student Health Portal main page.
Students who do not complete the requirements may experience holds on their account and may be unable to register for classes.

- Pre-Registration Academic Advising & Programming: The Advising Support Center (ASC) will be hosting a variety of pre-registration programming and events. The detailed schedule and Zoom links for these activities will be found in the Emory Essentials Oxford Edition Canvas course (specifically “Advising" pages). Please note events are taking place over Zoom and held in Eastern Daylight Time.
Keep an eye on Canvas announcements and the Advising Support Center's Instagram page for updates about programs leading up to course registration. Students can also email oxadvising@emory.edu with any questions.
- Large Group Course Planning Sessions: Large group course planning sessions will take place starting the week of October 21 (various times and days). Please plan to attend at least one group course planning session, but know there is no need to attend multiple sessions!
The group course planning sessions will cover logistics to navigate course registration, resources like Course Atlas and OPUS, and provide some general recommendations to help you prepare for course registration taking place the week of November 11 (your official enrollment times will appear in OPUS in the not-too-distant future).
- Individual Appointments: Individual advising appointments are available first-come, first-serve. Ideally, students should review content in Canvas (especially Academics) BEFORE scheduling individual meetings.
To schedule an individual appointment, students can access Emory Navigate with their Emory credentials (search for Oxford College First-Year Advising for the appointment type).
To use Navigate:
1. Access Emory Navigate via the desktop website or download the app
2. Click “Schedule an Appointment Today!” near the top right
3. Select “Academic Advising>Oxford College First Year Advising Appointment”
4. Select your date/time with an ASC advisor
|
- Advising Questionnaire: As part of the incoming first-year student checklist, all new students must complete the First Year Advising Questionnaire. The information submitted by YOU, the student, will be shared with the Advising Support Center and your faculty advisor. Your assigned faculty advisor will also be the instructor of your Discovery Seminar (DSC_OX 101) course. Faculty advisors are trained to work with all students, regardless of potential majors, and they will serve as one part of your advising network at Oxford College and Emory.
During your time at Oxford, your faculty advisor is trained to guide you through the general education program, offer advice and suggestions for academic resources, and support all your endeavors here. The information you provide in the questionnaire will help your advisor prepare to better assist you as you work together. You will have the opportunity to meet your assigned advisor during New Student Orientation in January.
The preferred deadline to submit your questionnaire was July 15, but the final deadline is November 1. Please answer ALL questions and be honest with your answers. If you have already submitted your Advising Questionnaire, you do not need to submit another one!
|
- Placement Exams: Placement exams may be required for some classes that you plan to take at Oxford. The original deadline for all required placement exams was August 1. Many of you completed the placement exams by that date. Thank you! However, if you did not complete your placement exams, we have extended the deadline to October 15. If you do not complete them by that time, you may have difficulty signing up for certain classes during course registration. Don't wait until the last minute to take these exams!
If you have questions about placement exams or content in the Emory Essentials Oxford Edition Canvas course, please contact the Advising Support Center at oxadvising@emory.edu.

- Spring Start Orientation: All students are required to register for Spring Start Orientation by December
Please register here. All incoming first-year students are required to register and attend Spring Start Orientation. Spring Start Orientation will begin on Friday, January 10 (move-in day) and continue through January 14 (First Day of Classes). Spring Start Orientation is designed to welcome you to the Oxford community and make your transition to campus as smooth as possible. You'll get the chance to experience traditions like the Oxford Olympics and have opportunities to meet faculty, staff, and students with the guidance of your Spring Start Orientation Leaders (second-year students).
Students are able to invite family and supporters to campus to help them move in (9:00 am-12:00 pm) on January 10. We have a special program for guests on the 10th, which will conclude just before dinnertime at 5:00 pm. At that point, we ask family members and guests to depart campus and allow their students to fully engage in the rest of the program. Please complete the registration form to let us know how many family members and supporters will be joining you.
For questions, email oxfordorientation@emory.edu.

- Discovery Seminars: We are excited about the six Discovery Seminar courses that will be offered in Spring 2025. Each Oxford student enrolls in a Discovery Seminar during their first semester. These courses engage you in inquiry-based learning with a small group of other first-year students and your instructor who will be your academic advisor during your time at Oxford. Your Discovery Seminar is your first step in Oxford's signature general education curriculum focused on Discovery, Exploration, and Reflection.
Now is the time to submit your preferences for your Discovery Seminar! You can find the course descriptions here and the preference form can be accessed here. Please submit your form by 11:59 pm ET on Tuesday, October 15.
If we do not receive your form by the deadline, you will be placed in a course with an open seat. If you have questions about Discovery Seminars, please contact the Advising Support Center at oxadvising@emory.edu."
|
- Transfer Credit Approval: If you have pursued college coursework at an accredited college/university and/or have received AP/IB or other test credits and would like to receive transfer credit and/or test credits, please complete a Request for Approval of Transfer/Test Credits form.
The Request for Approval of Transfer Credits Form (for college credits taken at another school) can be found here.
The Request for Approval of Test Credits form (for AP/IB/other test credits) can be found here.
Oxford cannot post AP/IB or transfer credits to your OPUS account until we receive a Request for Approval of Credits form. For AP/IB, Oxford must receive your AP/IB results directly from the College Board or IB. For college credits, we require an official transcript from the college/university that you took the class(es). Those transcripts can be sent to oxregistrar@emory.edu.
If you have any questions regarding completion of either form, please contact the Oxford Registrar's Office at oxregistrar@emory.edu. For more detailed information on credit policy, please visit our website.
