What Else You Need To Know |
|
|
- Academic Advising, Pre-Registration Programming, & Peer Advising Network (PAN): As an incentive to log in to the Oxford First Year Experience Canvas course, once students complete the Academics Modules, they are eligible to connect with the Advising Support Center in one of two ways: large course planning sessions and individual appointments.
- “Ready, Set, Register” Live Sessions Every Wednesday in July: Every Wednesday in the month of July, the Advising Support Center is hosting “Ready, Set, Register” sessions that cover the logistics of navigating course registration, including using resources like Course Atlas and OPUS, and providing some general recommendations to help you prepare for class registration (taking place August 5-7). A detailed schedule for these group sessions is posted in Canvas.
- Individual Appointments: If you have not met with your assigned ASC advisor, there is still time! Individual academic advising appointments are first-come, first-serve and available through Emory Navigate (see instructions below). We are limiting individual appointments to ONE per student, so that we can meet with as many first-year students as possible. Alternatively, students are always welcome to email questions to the ASC department directly at oxadvising@emory.edu or directly to their assigned advisors (you can communicate via EAB Navigate)
To use Navigate: 1. Access Emory Navigate via the website or download the app 2. Click “Schedule an Appointment Today!” near the top right 3. Select “Academic Advising>Oxford College First Year Advising Appointment” 4. Select your date/time with your assigned advisor
Please note, before you schedule an appointment:-
Make sure that you have thoroughly reviewed the material in the Academics Module
- Have one or two possible fall schedules ready for review
- Complete the Pre-Advising In-take Form (linked in Canvas!)
- Make sure to write down any questions you have so you don't forget
- Students are allowed to schedule ONE advising appointment for the summer, so be prepared!
- Peer Advising Network (PAN) Programs: Students can also attend programs hosted by the ASC’s Peer Advising Network (PAN) team. The Peer Advisors are rising sophomore students who want to help incoming students navigate their transition to Oxford College. To learn more about the PAN team's upcoming events, visit the “Advising Support Center Peer Advising Network (PAN)” page in Canvas. The PAN team is also promoting programs through the ASC’s Instagram and other social media platforms.

- Religious & Spiritual Life: Religious and Spiritual Life offers a range of services and opportunities for you at Oxford College. Led by Oxford's chaplain, Rev. Brent Huckaby, we have 8 religious and spiritual life groups for you to explore and join. Pastoral care and confidential counseling services are also available to all students. The staff coordinate several events throughout the year to build community, facilitate dialogue, and support students.
One of the signature programs of the year is the annual fall retreat. This year's retreat will be held September 19-20 at a camp close to Oxford College. The retreat is sponsored by Religious and Spiritual Life, but is open to everyone and is not religiously themed. It's a great chance to meet Oxford students, have fun, and get away for a night. Register for the retreat here. For questions about the retreat or any aspect of the Religious & Spiritual Life office, please contact us at oxorsl@emory.edu.
